The Paper Blogging Typewriter Giveaway 2025

It’s time for the 2025 typewriter giveaway!

Every year, I like to give away at least one typewriter, and it’s time for the 2025 giveaway! And for another year, I’ve found a Hunter Red Smith-Corona Galaxie as the giveaway typewriter.

What is it with these beautiful red machines? The Galaxie was manufactured by Smith-Corona from 1959, in various iterations, until 1980.

It’s a sturdy machine, a reliable workhorse typewriter, and not an unusual machine to find for sale.

Galaxies originally came in Apache Tan, Star-Mist Blue, Driftwood Gray, Spring Green, & Hunter Red

But of the five colors, Hunter Red was only manufactured for around a year.

It feels like an embarrassment of riches to find yet another of these red Smith-Coronas. But there was another one for sale on Facebook Marketplace, in the same area where I’d found several others.

So, last summer, I drove out to central Massachusetts from Boston and picked up this machine from its seller, Ray, and his wife, meeting at the iconic Big Bunny Market.

Ray had fond memories of using the typewriter for writing papers in high school. It had belonged to his grandmother and mother. He handed it over with some emotion, pointing to a note his wife had typed and left in the machine.

I assured them I’d find a good owner for this loved typewriter.

You have to love when a typewriter comes begging for a happy home.

Even before a thorough overhaul and cleaning, this machine looked good.

But then Tom Furrier of Cambridge Typewriter gave the Galaxie a thorough clean and repair before the final closing of his store.

I’ll include a typewriter mat and some vintage paper.
